Q

What key factors determine how much Kinetic Energy an Object has, and why?

A

Speed and Mass.

The more speed an object is travelling at = the more Kinetic Energy it has.

The more massive an object is = the more kinetic energy it has when in motion.

Q

What is the Equation to calculate the Kinetic Energy and object possess?

A

Ek = 0.5 MV(^2)
E = Energy, K = Kinetic, M = Mass, V(^2) = Velocity Squared.

Energy Possession is measured in Joules.

Therefore Kinetic Energy is equal to One Half of the Mass of the object Multiplied by its Velocity squared.

Q

How do you do the equation correctly?

A

All numerical values need to be in their correct units.

E.G > KG is the unit of mass so a 20tonne body must be converted into 20,000kg before the equation is done.

Q

How do you solve for the mass of a moving object when given its kinetic energy?

A

M (mass in kg) = Ek /0.5 x V(^2)

Mass is equal to kinetic energy divided by 0.5 multiplied by the velocity squared
