Positive transfer
learning one skill can help learn another similar skill
Negative transfer
learning one skill does not help learning another skill
Zero transfer
there are no similarities between two skills and have no effect on one another
Bilateral transfer
learning a skill on one side of the body and being able to complete skill on the other
Whole, Progressive part, Whole part whole
whole- practice skill as a whole
Progressive part- breaking down skill into a series of parts and chaining together
whole part whole- try the skill, then break down, then try skill again
Types of training
Massed- performers work continuously
Distributed- allow performer to rest between skills
Variable- changing practice of a skill so it can be adapted for a variety of situations
Mental- practicing skill with no movement (mental picture)
