Neuromuscular System Flashcards
Type 1 (slow twitch)
Slow contractions
Aerobic
High Myoglobin
High Mitochondria
Type 2b (fast twitch Glycolytic)
Very fast contractions
Anaerobic
Low Myoglobin
Low Mitochondria
Type 2a (Fast Oxidative Glycolytic fibres)
Fast contractions
Medium Myoglobin
Medium Mitochondria
Sympathetic
increase Heart rate
adrenaline
increase breathing rate
Parasympathetic
lowers heart rate
acetylcholine
lowers breathing rate
motor unit
the motor neurone and muscle fibres stimulated
Type of contractions
Wave Summation- new impulse fired before previous one relaxed
Tetanic Contractions- rapid firing of impulses
Spatial Summation- alternating motor units
Muscle spindles and Golgi tendons
muscle spindle- detects stretching
golgi tendon- responds to tension
PNF
1) passive stretch- detected by muscle spindles
2) isometric contraction- hold for 10seconds tension detected by golgi tendon
3) Relax muscle- then further stretch
