Reaction/ Movement/Response time/ Anticipation Flashcards
Reaction Time (choice and simple)
Reaction time- time from the onset of the stimulus to onset of response
Choice RT- time taken between stimulus and action that requires a choice
Simple RT- time taken to start a single response to a single stimulus
Factors effecting Reaction time
stimulus intensity- bolder age gender previous experience choices anticipation
Movement time
time taken from onset of movement to completion of task
Response time
Response time= Reaction time + Movement time
Anticipation
predicting a response
if you anticipate correctly- shortens response time
Spatial anticipation- predicting what action and where
Temporal anticipation- predicting when the action will occur
Hicks Law
The more choices available the slower response time
Single Channel Hypothesis
We can detect many stimuli at once, but only one can be dealt with at a time
If we process one stimulus and a second arrives it must wait
