Transcription - Lecture 1 Flashcards

1
Q

Does translation and transcription always occur simultaneously? If not - why?

A

In prokaryotes - yes

In eukaryotes - no bc transcription occurs in the nucleus and translation occurs in the cytoplasm

Q

How is mRNA synthesized?

A

It is synthesized in the 5’ to 3’ direction but only using the 3’ to 5’ DNA template strand with help of RNA polymerase

Q

What effect does cytidine deaminase have on the ApoB?

A

In the ApoB gene the CAA codon can change to a stop UAA codon which truncates the protein and gives it a different function
