transcription Flashcards
1
Q
step 1
A
dna helix unwinds exposing template strand to be used to make rna
2
Q
step 2
A
rna binds to promoter to start transcirption rna ploymerase reads template strand in dna to make complemenatary rna strands , mrna
3
Q
step 3
A
Splicing: Introns (non-coding regions) are removed, and exons (coding regions) are spliced together.
Methyl Cap: A methyl cap is added to the 5’ end of the mRNA to protect it and help with ribosome recognition.
Poly-A Tail: A poly-A tail (a string of adenine nucleotides) is added to the 3’ end to protect the mRNA and help with stability and export from the nucleus.
4
Q
step 4
A
mrna leaves the nucleus , mrna is processed and exported into the cytoplasm
