training principles Flashcards
what are training principles?
ways of planning for a training program
Specificity
process of replicating traits of physical activity in training to ensure benefits in preforming.
-four categories -> muscle groups and fitness components used, skills preformed and energy systems
eg. tennis player who needs to develop agility, speed, power to follow a program that develops these fitness components.
Progressive overload
-to improve, exercises must be intensified past current capacity
-variables to apply this over load are
* Distance of work
* Time of work
* Time of recovery period
* Number of repetitions
* Number of sets
* Number of sessions per week
* Amount of resistance
Frequency
the number of training sessions needed per week to ensure improvement. The minimum needed per week is generally 3 for aerobic and anaerobic fitness.
Intensity
-how hard each training session will be
-measured by measuring heart rate -> 220 - age= MHR
Duration
-The minimum length of time for a program to yield improvements. This is usually a minimum of 6 weeks.
time
the length of training sessions need to be at least 20 minutes.
Variety
providing different activities to maintain motivation
