Training Principles Flashcards
What is the principle of progressive overload?
In order to see improvement muscles must be stressed at loads that will force adaptations.
What is the principle of specificity?
That fitness improvements/adaptations are specific to training performed.
What is the principle of reversibility?
Use it or lose it
What is the principle of individual differences?
Benefits are optimal when training is programmed to individuals needs/capacites.
What is the ceiling effect?
As fitness increases, relative and absolute gains diminish.
e.g. if you have low initial fitness you will see rapid improvement; if you have high initial fitness you will have slower improvements
What is maintenance?
once adaptations have been achieved, it can be maintained by same or reduced volume of work.
How long can aerobic fitness be maintained at lower frequency and duration if intensity is maintained?
~8 weeks.
