Q

There are 5 safety procedures that should be considered absolutes when attempting to ventilate over a fire.

A

Always ladder the strong areas of the building away from potential structural problems such
as windows, large doors, etc.
2. Always have 2 means of escape from the roof. Emergency repelling is not considered one of
them. Have 2 ladders in place.
3. Ladder the building and approach the fire involved area from the uninvolved area. Utilize the
wind to your advantage if possible.
4. Always work in teams of at least 2 firefighters. It is inviting tragedy to attempt to ventilate with
one person.
5. While ventilating, work from the weak area toward the strong area. This will take the firefighter
back toward the means of escape if it was planned properly.
