What are the 6 contraindications of traction?
A
- Structure fault due to tumor or infection
- Vascular compromise, especially vertebral artery
- Any situation more movement is not indicated (fracture)
- Major acute neck injury
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Other situations with a ligament laxity for example, Down syndrome

A
- Acute strains
- Pregnancy because of lacks ligaments
- Osteoporosis
- Hiatal hernia
- Claustrophobia or other safety concerns
- Severe pain that is fully resolved by traction

- Nerve impingement
- Joint hypomobility
- Subacute joint inflammation
- Paraspinal muscle spasm

A
Continuous (several hours) Static (several minutes to a half an hour) Intermittent Manual Positional (self application)

What are The important percentages of body weight used in traction?
A
25% of body weight to length and lumbar spine.
50% of body weight needed to distract lumbar apophyseal joints.
7% of body weight needed to distract cervical spine apophyseal joints.
