Q

selenium function

A

Selenium is an essential part of enzymes and proteins called selenoproteins which help to fabricate DNA and protect against cell damage and infection. These proteins are also involved in reproduction and the metabolism of thyroid hormones. Because of its role in DNA production and apoptosis (cell suicide) it could play a role in cancer prevention.
