A

inhibit COX to reduce PG production. PGs have roles in mediating pain/inflammation, maintaining gastric mucosa, regulating blood flow to kidneys.

Mxn of NSAID toxicity

A

GI: n/v, gastritis, UGIB
Renal: ARF due to reduced blood flow (more common in chronic toxicity).
Metabolic: AGMA (2* NSAID or metabolite)
Systemic: if massive OD, cerebral and pulmonary edema, seizures, coma.

A

Abdo pain, n/v, renal insufficiency.
AMS< seizure, AGMA if severe ingestion.
Ibuprofen specifically causes cerebral, pulmonary edema, seizures, coma.
