Fauvism
Fauves = Wild Beasts. Group of artists who appeared to substitute raw energy for draftsmanship and technique. Primary colors were dominant. Influenced by van Gogh and Gaugin.

“The Bridge”. Opposed to the older, well established powers. Wanted to create a bridge to the future. Nietzsche. Opposed to Bourgeoisie lifestyle, considered Bohemians.
Der Blaue Reiter
“The Blue Rider”. Focus was on visually expressing a spirituality that resided beneath surface of visual world. Use color as language. Theosophy.
Analytic Cubism
Space is reduced to a flat plane and the subjects look as if they were sliced into small strips which were then put back together in shifting and overlapping planes intersecting triangles of empty space.
Synthetic Cubism
Cubism constructed from exterior materials - paper etc. (Collage) “to stick”. Proves questions of what is “real” and what is not.
Collage
Artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. eg. magazines, newspapers, material, etc.
Futurism
Italian movement. Used Cubism’s formal discoveries to represent figures and machines in motion and to express a new universal dynamism. The machine was the dawn of a new era for Futurism.
