A not formal organization that followed Impressionism’s modernist interests and bright palette. It added formal Gauguin.
Pointilism – Divisionism
Dots on canvas that blend together optically. Eg. Seurat
Symbolism
Literary movement begun in France. Rejected social consciousness of Realism and rejected interest of nature of Impressionism. Focus = Interior - man’s soul. Dreams, myths, macabre, the poetic.
Femme Fatale
Alluring, seductive, and dangerous woman
Art Nouveau
Stylized nature. Brought all aspects of art and craft together. Beauty transforms the mundane. Focus = architecture/interior design.
Lithography
Printing process using a greasy pen on a stone surface. After drawing on stone, stone is wet with water. Painting ink adheres only oily lines of drawing not the wet stone. Many impressions can be made from single plate. Toulouse-Lautrec posters.
