Louis XIV
His reign of 72 years is the longest of any monarch of a major country in European history. Known as the “Sun King”. Believed in Absolutism and religion was not his focus.
Absolutism
A form of government where the monarch has the power to rule the land freely, with no laws or opposition.
Fleur-de-lis
A stylized lily that is the symbol of France. The three ‘petals’ represent: Those who pray, those who work, those who fight.

Formulaic approach to create art by Poussin: Must include - Historic subject matter, thought, structure, style
French Academy
Established in France by royal decree from Louis XIV in 1678. Disegno focus on art. Began the education of artists, including drawing, but also the classics, biblical stories, anatomy, etc.
