- bring in foreign currency which can be used to help import items and services,
- provide income from jobs to other sectors from the multiplier effect,
- provides tax revenue to invest in education and healthcare,
- increased employment in urban areas which decreases rural urban migration
what are the economic disadvantages of tourism
- economic leakages (when incoming money from tourism sector doesnt benifit countires economy)
- jobs are often low paid and seasonal
- money borrowed for tourism investment can increase national debt
What’re the social and cultural benifits of tourism
- increases understanding within different cultures
- generates a greater appreciation for different cultures and history
-develops foreign language skills
-increases the chance of migration to the host country

- loss of locally owned land
-locals can be locked out of attractions and beaches - abandoned traditions
- increased crime rates and drug use
- antisocial behaviour from tourists can bother locals
- loss of housing due to tourists buying homes

more jobs are created for local people/people can earn money or examples of how
they earn money e.g. boat trips (Max 1);
• enabling spending on education/hospitals;
• development of infrastructure (water, electricity, transport, roads, airport);(Max1);
• cultural exchange/meet diverse groups of people;
• retention of culture/traditions;
• increased market for local farmers;
• open business idea/sales of local craft items/or examples e.g. hotels make profit;
