Total Overview Flashcards
CAM
Content adressabke memory- fast memory used in router and switches allowing for quick completion of operation
Uses parallel searching(checks whole table simultaneously) which makes it faster then normal memory
CSU/DSU
Channel service unit - terminates a connection(T-1/E-1) to a dsu or direct to a net device
DSU- data service unit- converts format of data from a customer net to the format needed for data to be routed on external lan
CWDM
Coarse wave-length division multiplexing- Puts data signals onto multiple diff wavelengths allowing transfer of lots diff data
-18 channnels total Channels 20nm apart from 1270 to 1610 nm
- more cost effective then man as it doesn’t need cooling
- used in MAN’s
DLP
Data loss prevention- a set of tools and software helping stop the transfer of sensitive data out of the network
DWDM
Dense wavelength division multiplexing- allows transmission of multiple signals over a single fiber using diff color wavelengths
-0.8 to 1.6 channel widths
-channels can support 100 Mbps to 100gbps
-used in backbone of networks, linking datacenters and man’s
-1530-1565 and 1565-1625nm
Eap
A framework supporting multiple authentication methods, allows diff authentication method to become part of a single system
-eap-tls- uses certificate for motel authentication (most secure)
-eap-ttls- create secure tunnel and with goes through the tunnel
-peap- creates secure tunnel for with to go through
EIRP
Effective isotopic radiated power- measure of power of single coming from an antenna
- used to compare antennas
- formula EIRP= Pt + G - L
FCoE
Fiber channel over Ethernet- encapsulates fiber channel frames over Ethernet to allow a combination of a storage net (SAN) and eth net (DATA net)
FHRP
A set of protocols ensuring HA of a default gateway Incase of a failure
- protocols VRRP(virtual), HSRP(Cisco proprietary)
- routers decided on use by receiving a priority number
GBIC
Gigabit interface converter— hot-swappable interface allowing network devices to connect to fiber or copper cabling
HA
High-availability- refer to the design implementation and configuration of network device to allow for maximum uptime and high availability
-load balancing, raid, failover clusters, redundant links, etc
IBSS
Independent basic service set-a wireless network configuration option allowing as-gov communication between devices
-one device send bacon frame indicating presence other join with association request
-good for file sharing, temp networks, emergency situations
IDF
Intermediate distribution frame- a component of a hierarchical network which connects end devices to the MDF by having end devices connected to it (the IDF)
-provides net segmentation
-usally provides connectivity to a floor or area
-localizes troubleshooting issues
MDF
Main distribution frame- central hub for all connections network and telecommunications in the building/ campus
IGMP
Internet group management protocol- a network layer protocol allowing hosts and routers to opt into receiving multicast traffic fork a specific source
- use cases : media streaming, gaming
- allows efficient data distribution by not sending the multicast to every device
