SDN Flashcards
SDN
SDN is a way to manage networks which separates the logic which decides where data goes from the hardware that moves the data
SDN controller
Control plane of SDN which manages the network by telling the devices what to do with data
-Communicates with decides using OpenFlow
Planes of SDN
1.infrastructure/data/forwarding plane
2. Control plane
3. Application/ management plane
Infrastructure/data plane
Sends data based on instructions or according to rules from the control plane
- handles NAT, trunking, forwarding, encrypting
Control plane
manages the network be making decision on where data should be send and sending those decision to the data plane
Where: routing, session and NAT table are and SDN controller
Management/ application plane
Where you configure and manage the infrastructure devices
Where : SSH, , API’s, and browsers are used
SD-WAN
Like SDN for WANs it’s sepersted the control layer from the hardware infrastructure simplifying management and operation
-has a central controller that manages traffic in the wan like SDN(uses polices and priorities to dertermine how traffic should behave)
- dynamic Path selection- monitors paths for issues and adjust accordingly
-prioritize traffic using classes to allow more bandwidth for more important traffic like QOS
