TOS Flashcards
What are the three common areas of compression in TOS?
- intrascalene triangle
- Costoclavicular space
- Subpectoralis minor space
Where is the most common compression site for Arterial TOS?
Compression of the subclavian artery in the intrascalene triangle
Where is the most common site of compression for Venous TOS?
Compression of the subclavian or accessory vein in the costoclavisular space
This can be positional with overhead arm use.
What is the most common type of TOS?
Neurogenic accounts for approx 97% of cases
Arterial is the least common
In neurogenic TOS which is the most affected muscle?
APB follwed by intrinsics.
What symtpoms might you expect in Arterial TOS?
Intermittent arm pain
paraesthesia
fatigibility with overhead arm use
pallor
diminished pulse
What presentation would you expect in Neurogenic TOS?
Weakness of the thenar, hypothenar and interossei muscles.
Pain
numbness
paraesthesia
weakness of upper extremity
What are the names of 4 provocative tests for TOS?
Adson’s
Wright’s
Roo’s
Military Brace Test
What is Paget-Schroetter syndrome?
Compression of the subclavian vein
What msucle can impinge on the neurovascular bundle when the arm is in hyperabduction?
Pectoralis Minor.
A history of unilateral Raynaud’s Disease should raise suspicion of what type of TOS?
Arterial
