TOS Flashcards
Compression at the interscalene triangle might implicate these structures
Can be caused by hypertrophy of scalenes, elevated 1st rib, elongated C7 and postural abnormalities
Compression at the costoclavicular space
Caused by callus from clavicle fx, repetitive throwing, retracted and depressed shoulder girdle.
Subcoricoid space TOS
Usually from depressed and retracted shoulder girdle and pec minor tightness. Elevated positions is problematic
Most common type of TOS and what sex?
Neurogenic and usually young females
What causes neurogenic TOS?
Cervical rib or hypertrophy of scalenes
What are signs of neurogenic TOS?
Thenar muscle atrophy, finger flexor and abduction weakness, sensory deficits of medial arm, medial forearm, medial hand and 4th and 5th digits
What two signs will you have in cervical radiculopathy and not TOS
Positive spurlings or distraction test
Upper plexus TOS affects what distribution?
C5-6, Pain in thorax, upper arm, lateral arm and lateral two fingers.
Upper plexus TOD is worsened by what arm position?
Worse with arm elevation
Arterial TOS affects what group?
This tends to affect younger adolescents.
Signs of this TOS include; pain with UE effort, extremity coolness, pallor, decreased distal pulse
Arterial
Shoulder and neck pain along with decreased pulse, extremity coolness
Aneurysm
What test would implicate PAD?
Allen’s test
This type of TOS is provoked with throwing and repetitive overhead activities
Venous
Will see swelling, cyanosis, and collateral veins with this TOS
Venous
