An action committed by an individual or business that causes harm, intentionally or unintentionally
Tortfeasor
The person committing the tort
Intentional Tort
deliberate harm

Business Exposure
actions that made a business vulnerable
Vicarious Liability
an employer is responsible for injuries caused by an employee while acting in the course of their employment
Remedy
the compensation, financial or other, when a person is successful in a lawsuit. Also called damages
Battery
the physical intentional and unconsented contact that causes harm; it is an unlawful offence and a tort
Assault
the intention or threat of unwanted physical contact that causes harm
False Imprisonment
intentionally confining an unwilling person within a specified area
Passing Off
falsely representing to the public another company’s product or service as your own
Inducing Breach of Contract
an economic tort where a person or persons convinces a third party to breach his/her contract with the plaintiff
Interference with Economic Relations
deliberate illegal interference with the interests of a third party
Trespass to Land
entering and/or occupying land or property not owned and without permission or restricting the enjoyment of the property by its owners
Trespass to Chattels
Causing damage, destroying, using, or removing a plaintiff’s chattels
