a complex process to resolve a legal dispute in the civil court system base don the evidence presented by those involved in the dispute
Litigation
a person or organization that sues another person or organizations
Plaintiff
a person or organization that is bring sued
Defendant
a dispute between 2 or more parties brought before a civil court for a decision
lawsuit
A form of hearing of a court case before a judge, jury or both
trial
Resolution of the dispute that is acceptable to both sides bringing the matter to it’s final disposition
Settlement
The area of law that deals with parties that have a dispute. The parties go through a well defined process in order to bring the matter to a resolution. The plaintiff must prove his/her case on the balance of probabilities
Civil Law
in a civil matter, the standard of proof requiring that something be proven to have more likely occurred than not
Balance of Probabilities
When the losing party in any court case disagrees with the decision of the court, it will wish to have a higher court look at the case and come to a conclusion
Appeal
permission for a case to be heard before the Supreme Court of Canada
