Topologies Flashcards
1
Q
Typology
A
arrangement of the nodes and connections in a network
2
Q
Bus
A
- clients, servers, resources connected to one cable (bus)
- Node communicates - data is transmitted down the bus, all devices revive, only intended recipient accepts and processes the message
- terminator prevents message bouncing back
3
Q
Adv and Disadv of Bus
A
A - Cheap/easy to install
D- If bus fails so does the whole network
- More workstations = worse performance as more data collisions
- All workstations see all the data - security risk
4
Q
Star
A
Central connection point - hub, switch, router.
Each node is connected too the central point
5
Q
Adv and Disadv of star
A
Adv
- reliable, one cable or device fails, other devices are unaffected
- high performance, no data collisions
Disadv
- Expensive, lot of cable/extra hardware
- central device fails, network fails
6
Q
Ring
A
Each device connected to two others.
Message is sent in one directing, received by each device until intended recipient receives it.
7
Q
Adv and Disadv of ring
A
Adv
- data transfered quickly, data flows in one direction, no data collisions
Disadv
- cable fails/faulty device then whole network fails
- workstations see data not intended for them - security risk
