Topic 9 - Organic Chemistry Flashcards
What are addition polymers
Joining of short chain monomers to produce one long chain polymer
What are alkenes in terms of monomers and why
Alkenes are the monomers used in addition polymerisation.
This is because the carbon-carbon double bonds in alkenes can open up to allow multiple alkenes to join together.
Where is poly (propene) produced
When propene monomers undergo addition polymerisation
Why are alkanes saturated hydrocarbons
As all their bonds with other atoms are single bonds
Why are alkanes good for being useful fuels
Quite unreactive
Burn well
Why are alkenes unsaturated hydrocarbons
As they contain a double bond between two of their carbon atoms
Why are alkenes more reactive
As they have a double bond
