Topic 9 - Motions In Fields Flashcards
Gravitational field strength
At a point is the force per unit mass on a small mass placed at the point
Gravitational potential energy
At a point is the work done to move a mass from infinity to that point.
Gravitational potential
At a point in a gravitational field is the work done per unit mass in moving a small mass from infinity to that that point.
Kepler’s third law
The square of the period of revolution of a planet around the sun is proportional to the cube of the average distance of the planet from the sun.
Electric potential difference
Between two points is the work done per unit charge to move a small positive charge between two points.
Elective field strength
Is the force per unit charge felt by a positive test charge placed in the field
Electric potential
At a point is the work done per unit charge in bringing a small positive charge from infinity to that point
Newton’s law of universal gravitation
The force of gravity between two objects is proportional to the objects’ mass and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
