Topic 8 Flashcards
What is hydraulics
Hydraulics- the study of pressure in liquids
What are CFC’s and why are they bad
CFCs are chlorofluorohydrocarbons and they cause damage to the ozone layer
Why does gas under pressure want to expand with great force?
Because it is squished into a smaller space and it wants to take up more space/ so much pressure it looks for every chance to escape
How does a hydraulic system work when force is applied to one end
It transmits the force through the liquid
Hydraulics are used for more heavy duty stuff, they can apply more force ( construction)
Hydraulics to transport fluids
Liquids under pressure flow from the force in all directions.
Pumps apply the force.
Friction in hydraulics
Friction is a factor that affects fluid pressure. Pumping stations are placed along the transport route and they restore the pressure in the fluid so it keeps moving
Pneumatic systems
They are systems that use compressed gases. INstead of pumps they use compressor to pressurize the gas.
From large tampers to tiny drills these all transmit force, causing motion.
