Topic 8 Flashcards
when use lipid metabolism
during fasting
during starvation
during keto diet
lipoylsis
when lipase cuts the ester bond between the gylcerol and the fatty acid
eat too many carbs
DHAP will be converted to glycerol
this is lipogenesis
ketogensis
when people dont eat enough carbs
two acytl coa mols from beta oxidation combine to fomr acetoacytl coa
acectoacytl coa is then converted to HMG CoA
HMG then splits into acetoactate and actyl
types of ketones
Acetone
ACAC
BHB
ketolysis
when ketone bodies breakdown to form acetyl coa to go through the krebs cycle
cholestrol synthesis
conversion of acetyl coa to cholestrol
fatty acid synthesis
occurs when blood glucose is too high
occurs in the liver
insulin regulates this
CCK
hormone in stomach that tells gall bladder to contract
gall bladder releases bile
this emulisfies fats
LDL receptor
for LDL uptake into a cell
1) coated pits - littl epockets on the cells surface
2) ldl binds to these
30 membrane binds and wraps around ldl - forms an endocytotic vesicle - these all merge togther to form an endosome
4) endosome merges with lysosome - breaks it down to get the cholesterol
cholestrol production in cell
when cholestrol enters - tells cell to stop making its own cholestrol and also down regualtes the receptors on the outside of the cell so it stops coming inside
beta oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids
occurs as normal till step hydration step - enol coa isomerase comes in and moves the cis bond between c3 and c4 to a double bond
uneven fatty acid beta oxidation
goes as normal till last 3 carbons - its converted to succinyl coa
fatty acid synthsis
first step is acetyl coa is converted to malonyl coa
glycerphospholipids
in cell membrane used for cell signalling
has a gylerol -3-phospahte backbone with a fatty acid attahced to carbon 1 and hydrophilic head on c3
synthesis of glycerphospholipids
g3p - PA - CDP - GYLERPHOSPHOLIPPIDS
