Topic 8 Flashcards
What is regulation important?
Regulation is important as there may be changes in nutrients , and competition
What are the 3 things you cant turn off in regulation ?
TCA CYCLE
ATP SYNTHESIS
CENTRAL METABOLISM
What are the two regulations for proteins
Covalent modification (GAMP)
Allosteric regulation
What does covalent modifcation do ?
It can alter enzyme conformation which can decrease or increase activity
Modifying it with GAMP
What does allosteric regulation do?
Basically another site on a protein where an effector can bind and inhibit or activate
What type of regulation does transcription have
The lac operon
What is the lac operon
A unit that is able to transcribe with structural genes and regulatory elements
What is the main goal of negative control
Allosteric protein acts to prevent mRNA synthesis
What are two things that are negative controll
Induction and regression
What is regression and what does it affects
Inhibits transcription in response to a signal (allosteric regulation), it affects the anabolic pathway
What is induction and what does it affect
Derepression of enzyme production in response to to a signal it affect the catabolic pathways
It removes the repression molecules
What is positive control?
Allosteric protein that acts to activate mRNA synthesis
Helos bind RNA POL to prmoter
What are effectors
They affect protein production either with allosteric regulator
What are the three type of effectors
Co inducer co activator , co repressorv
What does the co-inducer or co-activator do?
Turns in enzyme production
