Topic 7 - Magnetism & Electromagnetism Flashcards
What do magnetics produce
magnetic fields
Characteristics of magnetics
two poles - north and south
all magnetics produce magnetic fields
when drawing lines always goes north to south
the closer the lines, stronger they are and vise versa
what two types of magnets are there
permanent and induced magnets
what are permanent magnets
they produce their own magnetic fields
what are induced magnets
they are magnetic materials that turn into magnets when put in magnetic field
what happens if you take away the induced magnets magnetic field
the quickly lose their magnetism
what does a moving charge create
it creates a magnetic field when a current flows through a wire
what is the structure of the field with a current flowing through a wire
the field made up of concentric circles perpendicular to the wire
what is a solenoid
it is how you increase the strength of the magnetic field of a wire by wrapping the coil into a coil.
