Topic 6- The rate and extent of chemical change: Flashcards
1
Q
Equation for rate of reaction:
A
Amount of reactant used/time
2
Q
Collision theory:
A
Chemical reactions can only take place when reacting particles collide with eachother and with sufficient energy.
3
Q
Effect of changing concentration on an equilibrium:
A
- If the concentration of reactants increase: the equilibrium shifts toward the side of the products.
** This means that more product is formed.** - If the concentration of products increase: the equilibrium shifts towards the side of reactants.
This means that more reactant is produced.
4
Q
Effect of changing temperature on an equilibrium:
A
- Increase in temperature: equilibrium favours the endothermic reaction.
The yield of the endothermic side increases - Decrease in teperature: equilibrium favours the exothermic side
The yield of the endothermic side increases
5
Q
Effect of changing pressure on an equilibrium:
A
- Increase in pressure: the equilbrium shifts to the side with the fewest gaseous molecules
- Decrease in the pressure: equilibrium will shift to the side with the most gaseous molecules
