Topic 6: Practice Flashcards
Practice definition
Performing (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one’s proficiency
Weekly, accumulated, and complex movements practice
In all three, experts practice more than amateurs, no matter the age
Deliberate practice
Highly structured activity designed with the explicit goal of improving performance.
Structure of deliberate practice
1) Highlight weaknesses and mistakes “what are my mistakes”
2) Improve on what is insufficient “do the task without making mistakes”
3) Monitor the level of achievements “Have I corrected my mistake”
What’s the reward in practice?
Deliberate practice is NOT ENJOYABLE since it requires effort, it is boring, and there are no immediate benefits.
Individuals are motivated to practice because the practice improves their performance.
