Topic 6: Chemical Compounds Flashcards
1
Q
Molecular Compound
A
- Formed by a non-metallic and non-metallic element
- Formed when atoms are shared
- Does not form ions in solutions
2
Q
Ionic Compounds
A
- Metalic element and non metallic element
- produces ion in solution
- transfer atoms
3

Q
Ionic Compound
A
- Made up of metallic elements
- Formed when an atom gains or looses an electron
- Forms ions in solutions
- Can conduct electricity
- Solid at room temperature
12
Q
How to Name Ionic Compounds
A
- Write the full names of the first and second element
- Change the ending of the second element to “ide”
*Some elements have more than one charge. To figure out what charge is being used a Roman numeral is added.

Q
Conductivity
A
- Substances ability to carry an electric current
