Who is Gary Powers?
Americans sent a spy plane with Gary Powers as pilot.
They shot him down because he was flying over a Soviet territory while taking pictures of their military equipment. It happened the night before a Summit meeting. The Berlin Wall was put up as a result of the U2 crisis being discussed at the meetings. Berlins issues were not discussed at the time when they should have been
What was the U2 crisis?
Took place between the Americans and the Russians where there was a sense of mistrust.
What happened after the U2 crisis?
There was an ended to Khrushchev’s peaceful co- existence
USA were on armed alert as they expected a retaliation from the USSR
The Paris summit meeting was cancelled and the Berlin people were upset because none of their issues were worked out.
