Khrushchev visited Britain + USA in 1955 when he became the leader of the USSR

A

Khrushchev planned to reduce the expenditure of money on arms.

Did not allow satillite states to de-Stalinize as much as he still needed some protection. He was worried he was going to loose his buffer against Western Europe

A

A country that is used as protection against the west. Stalin created these and used them to his advantage.

A

When in 1955 west Germany was admitted to NATO in retaliation Khrushchev set up the Warsaw Pact.

After the Warsaw Pact the USSR cancelled its wartime alliances with Britain and France
