Topic 5 - Light And The Electromagnetic Spectrum - Colour Flashcards
What is each colour in terms of physics?
Each colour is just a certain wavelength in visible light
The visible light spectrum includes various wavelengths perceived as different colours.
What do all the colours together make up?
White light
White light is the combination of all visible wavelengths.
Why do objects appear to have a certain colour, such as ‘green’?
Out of the incident white light, only that certain colour light (green light) is reflected, all other colours are absorbed
This phenomenon is due to the properties of opaque materials.
What do colour filters do?
All other colours are absorbed, and only a certain colour is allowed to pass through
This means that only a certain wavelength is transmitted through the filter.
Fill in the blank: Objects appear to have a certain colour as out of the incident white light only that certain colour light is _______.
reflected
True or False: All colours are transmitted through a colour filter.
False
A colour filter only transmits a certain wavelength while absorbing others.
