Topic 5- Blood types Flashcards
1
Q
Glycoproteins:
A
- Blood types are based on glycoproteins that are on the cell membrane.
2
Q
Antigen:
A
- Found on the surface of the cells and formulate antibodies to fight against a toxin.
3
Q
Antibodies:
A
- Locates in the plasma and fights the disease.
4
Q
Antigens of the different blood types:
A
- Blood type A has A antigen.
- Blood type B has B antigen.
- Blood type AB has A and B antigens.
- Blood type O has O antigens.
- Blood type Rh+ has antigen Rh+
5
Q
Antibodies of the different blood types:
A
- Blood type A has antibody B.
- Blood type B has antibody A.
- Blood type AB has no antibody.
- Blood type O has antibody A or B
- A person with Rh+ factor has Rh-.
6
Q
Donating Blood:
A
- A person can only receive blood from a person who does not have the same antibody.
- Antibodies attatch to antigens causing blood to clot.
7
Q
Agglutinate:
A
Blood clotting!
8
Q
Universal Recipient:
A
AB+
- Can only donate to AB, but can receive any blood.
9
Q
Universal Donor:
A
O
- Can donate to everybody, but can only receive blood from O.
10
Q
Erythroblastosis:
A
- An Rh- mother and an Rh+ father will get a baby with Rh+ for their first child.
- The blood of the mother ands the baby are not mixed until birth.
- The mothers blood recognizes the Rh+ antigens and makes antibodies.
- If the second baby has Rh+ it will be attacked by the antibodies of the mother.
11
Q
Artificial Blood Positives:
A
- Can be stored for longer.
- No matching required.
- Carries oxygen and carbon dioxide.
- No screening
- Gives time to be able to regenerate the blood.
12
Q
Artificial Blood Negatives:
A
- No clotting, and no immunity.
