HDLs are?
High density lipoprotein good - want these high
Takes excess triglycerides from body tissue to the liver for disposal
LDLs are?
Low density lipoproteins- bad want these low don’t want
Transport triglycerides & cholesterol from liver to body tissue
Types of fat are?
The good - monounsaturated fats Polyunsaturated fat ( omega 3s) low ldl high hdl
The bad - saturated fat butter, lard keeps ldls high
The ugly - trams fatty acids fast food high ldls low hdls
What do saturated fat & trans fat increase?
Blood Cholesterol, & therefore the risk of heart disease
Some saturated fats are what at room temperature?
Solid butter, cream whole milk, beef far
Trans fatty acids are?
Made when oils are hydrogenated to make them solid at room temp. Gets into foods when fried in these fats or fats are added during cooking baking
Where trans fat naturally occur?
In the digestive system of animals such as cows, sheep and goats produced.
Trans fat is found in?
Hydrogenated fats
Lard
Shortening
What is cardiovascular disease?
A term that includes all the diseases of the heart and blood vessels
Congestive heart failure or, stroke, hypertension high blood pressure
