What are the sacred texts of Islam?
The Qu’ran and Hadith
What is the Qu’ran?
The sacred text of Islam, the direct, authentic words of Allah.
The divine revelations recieved by Muhammad from the angel Gabriel for a 23 year period beginning in 610 CE.
Contains 114 surah, or chapters.
Contains Islamic belief, ethics, law and rituals
Discusses Allah as the true God and all aspects of human existence.

Qur’an 16:89 - “and We have revealed the Book to you explaining clearly everything”
What is the Hadith?
The recorded traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, based on his sayings, approvals and actions.
Secondary to the Qu’ran.
Serve as a source of religious law and moral guidance.
List the principle beliefs of Islam
Belief in God (Tawhid)
Belief in Angels (Malaikah)
Belief in the Messengers of God (Rusul)
Belief in God’s Revealed Books
Belief in the Day of Judgement (Akhira)
Belief in Predestination (Al-Qadar)
Describe the Belief in God (Tawhid) as a principle belief of Islam
Having absolute faith in the oneness of God. God is personal, transcedent and unknowable. There is only one God, Allah, who is the centre of the universe.
Describe the Belief in Angels (Malaikah) as a principle belief of Islam
God’s greatness means he cannot communicate directly with humans, so he passed messages to his prophets via the angels. They are pure beings who follow the commandments of Allah.

Describe the Belief in the Messengers of God (Rusul) as a principle belief of Islam
Messengers of God to guide humanity, should be respected as role models for Muslims. There are 124,000 prophets and Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets.
Describe the Belief in God’s Revealed Books as a principle belief of Islam
Belief in the revelations sent by God to all people. The Qu’ran being the revealed scripture as the unchanged word of Allah.
Describe the Belief in the Day of Judgement (Akhira) as a principle belief of Islam
Belief in life after death.
Belief that life on Earth is a test and after death we will be judged by God and sent to Paradise of Hell. Allah will consider faith, good deeds and bad deeds.
Describe the Belief in Predestination (Al-Qadar) as a principle belief of Islam
God knows all beings and events and everything in the universe follows Allah’s masterplan

Describe Halal and give examples
The actions that are permitted according to Islamic or Shariah law. For example: chicken, seafood and eggs

The actions that are prohibited accroding to Islamic of Shariah law. For example: pork, blood and alcohol
