What is the historical and cultural context in which Chrisitianity began?
Chritistianity grew out of Judaism in the first century. Intially a section of “Jewish Christians”, which overtime became Christianity.
List the principal events of Jesus’s life
Birth, Ministy, teachings, the passion, arrest and death, resurrection and ascension
Where and when was Jesus Christ born?
According to the Gospel records, Jesus was born around 6BCE in Bethlehem.
Describe the ministry as a principal event of Jesus Christ’s life
Jesus began his ministry as a teacher and healer at the age of 30. Began with his baptism by John the Baptist in the River Jordan as seen in Matthew 3:13-17. Followed my a period of prayer and fasting in the desert. Them he called his first disciples as seen in Mark 1:16-20. Preached and taugh parables such as the Good Shepherd. Performed miracles, such as in Mark 5:21-43 when Jesus raises a girl from the dead.
Give an example of the teachings of Jesus
Sermon on the Mount as seen in Matthew 5:3-4, “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted”
Describe the passion, arrest and death of Jesus Christ as a principal event of his life
Jesus entered into Jerusalem for the last weeks of his life. Involved in a series of public arguments. Celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples. Arrested and brought to trial, sentenced to death by crucifixion.
Resurrection and ascension
On the third day after being placed in the tomb, a group of women went to Jesus’ tomb and were told by an angel he had risen from the dead. Then seen on many occasions as written in John 20:24-29: “We have seen the Lord!” 40 days after his resurrection he was said to have ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9)
List why Jesus is the role model for Christian life
Jesus inaugurates the reign of God.
Jesus lives a life of prayer.
Jesus lives a life of service to others.
Jesus acts as an advocate for the poor.
Jesus loves and forgives others.

Describe the variants of Christianity
Originally grew out of Judaism, developed into Early Christianity. The Great Schism in the 11th century split Christianity into the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Reformation in the 16th century then created the Protestant churches as a result of a split from the Roman Catholic Church.

Where do the core ethical teachings of Christianity come from and what are they?
Majority of the core ethical teachings come from the Bible, although a number of statements from Churches and the Pope also contribute. The core ethical teachings are made up of The Ten Commandments, The Beatitudes and Jesus’ Commandment of Love
Describe The Ten Commandments
Found in the Old Testament, Exodus 20:1-17. The first three deal with the way in whcih people should conduct their relationship with God. They demand respect, loyalty and acknowledgement of God as creator and giver of live. The next seven are about one’s obligations to others. They provide order to a faithful society and reflect the first commandments by demanding respect for all people as God’s creations.
Describe The Beatitudes
A collection of teachings attributed to Jesus. The teachings praise a set of virtues which reflect a Christian way of living. They challenge Christians to make decisive moral choices.
Describe Jesus’ Commandment of Love
Within the Gospel story Jesus proffers this agape love, challenging all people to repent of their sinfulness and return to God. It unites all calls people to adopt the values underlying the 10 Commandments and the Beatitudes and follow Jesus to the cross

What is the importance of prayer to practicing Christians?
Prayer is an important way a Christian follower acknowledges the existence of a relationship with God and creates a strong relationship with him. Prayer connects the heart, mind and will to God.
What are the five forms of prayer?
Blessing and adoration - expresses praise and honour to God
Intercession - asking for what others need
Petition - asking for what the individual needs, including forgiveness
Praise - expresses gratitude for God’s greatness and goodness
Thanksgiving - expresses gratitude for God’s gifts
What is Shariah law?
A system of religious law derived from the Qu’ran and the Hadith, guiding Muslim life
