Diagnostic Reasoning
The analysis underpinning the problem classification or physiotherapy ‘diagnosis’
Psychosocial focused reasoning
The analysis associated with understanding individuals’ (and at times family’s, carers’) symptom, illness and/or disability experiences.
Interactive Reasoning
The thinking and behaviour involved in the purposeful establishment and ongoing management of the patient/client-therapist therapeutic alliance and rapport.
Collaborative Reasoning
The health care collaboration between the therapist and the individual (and sometimes trusted family member, parent/caregiver or close friend) in making choices about care, based on provision of the therapist’s analysis, evidence-based information about options, outcomes and uncertainties, and the patient’s preferences.
Ethical Reasoning
The process of analysis that physiotherapists use to make decisions with a moral component.
Procedural Reasoning
The analysis and decision-making regarding selection, implementation and progression of treatment procedures and management strategies.
Prognostic Reasoning
The analysis and clinical judgment regarding whether a person’s health problem(s) can be resolved, improved or deterioration lessened.
