groups that split people up according to their job or profession
what do socio economic groups effect?
participation rates

how does being in a lower socio economic group effect participation?
some activities e.g gym membership are expensive
less well off areas aren’t as many facilities
people who are in lower paid jobs may have to work more hours- don’t have time
how does your gender effect levels of participation?
some men don’t want to dance or play netball because it is seen as a female activity vice versa
women usually earn less than men- may not be able to it
traditionally women may have less time for sport as they are looking after children
how does age effect participation in sport?
access- some clubs may only allow certain age groups to play at certain times
cost- money needed to pay bills instead
harder to participate as you get older
how does ethnicity effect participation in sport?
cultural influences from family or peers
stereotyping may stop or encourage someone e.g africans are usually associated with long distance running instead of swimming
cost- people from ethnic minority groups may have less money to spend on sport
how does disability effect participation in sport?
lack of disable friendly facilities or clubs in an area
special equipment is expensive
not correct access e.g into a pool
stereotyping- assuming they cant participate because of a disability can be from person themselves or others
