Topic 3 - Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photo synthesis? (Write it down)
Carbon dioxide + water
——>
Oxygen and glucose
What are the reactants of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide and water
What are the products of photosynthesis
Oxygen and glucose
In photosynthesis what does chlorophyll do?
Used to pick up the energy from the sunlight
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis
Temperature
Light
Carbon dioxide
What do plants use glucose for
Cellulose cell walls
Respiration
Turned into starch for storage
What is the a leaf placed into to remove the chlorophyll?
Ethanol
How do you test a leaf for starch?
Place the leaf in boiling water to break down the cell membrane and kill the leaf
Place the leaf in boiling ethanol to remove the green pigment called chlorophyll. The leaf will go white
Place the leaf in water to soften it
Place the leaf on a clear tile and pipette iodine solution on it
What colour will the leaf go if starch is present?
Blue black
What colour will the leave be if no starch is present
Remain orangey brown
What is photosynthesis
This is how plants use sunlight to make glucose
What does sodium hydroxide do?
Absorb carbon dioxide
If there is no C02 present what happens to the rate of photosynthesis
No photosynthesis occurs
