what are the 3 aspects of intrinsic motivation
-being motivated by accomplishments
-motivated by stimulation (adrenaline rush)
-motivated by knowledge (desire to develop new techniquers)
what are the two main types of sport confidence
extrinsic (being motivated by external rewards) and intrinsic (involves participating in sport for enjoyment)
describe vealey’s model of sports confidence
trait sport confidence-based on your sporting ability from previous experiences
state sport confidence-ability to perform in a particular sporting context(e.g scoring a penalty)
competitive orientation -suggest that how competitive you are will affect your motivation
-vealy carried out 3 questionnaire measure for each of these factors

you can see that how you perceive success of your sport can have an effect on (trait sport confidence) and competitive orientation (motivation)
bandura -sporting self efficacy
self efficacy-believes in ones ability to succeed in specific situations or taks(it can be high or low)
Banduras 4 factors on self efficacy:
-previous personal achievement -if you have been successful in the past then it will increase self efficacy
-vicarious experience- thinking we can be successful if we see a role model do it
-verbal persuasion-praise from coaches
-emotional arousal-optimum arousal is needed to focus the athlete
Van Raalte et al-psotitve self talk
-positive self talk before or during a performance can increase motivation
-60 undergraduate males who playde darts assigned to positve,negative or control group.
-results showed positive self talk lead to significantly better accuracy
amorose and horn(2001) -improving intrinsic motivation
-72 college students participated in a variety of sports
-they were given a questionnaire before to measure intrinsic motivation
-athletes whose coaches use lots of technical instruction tended to show increase in intrinsic motivation,while autocratic coach style leads to owered intrinsic motivation.
