What is surface water
When fresh water systems exit above the water
What is ground water
When fresh water systems exit underground
What is the difference between a lake and a pond
A lake is larger in size/deeper
A pond sunlight reaches the bottom
Ponds can be bigger then lakes
What is clarity
How clear the water is by how much matter there is in the body of water
What are wetlands?
Saturated bodies of water with water all or most of the time, Also provide habitats for life
There are many types of wetlands but this is the characteristic they have in common
What are Streams and Rivers?
Fast flowing waterways. Vary in speed, temp and clarity
What is continental divide
A long ridge of mountains that divide North America
What is a Water Shed
A area of land that drains into a body of water
What is Head water
The upstream area of a watershed or the “Head” of the stream
What is Out Flow
The endpoint of water flowing through a water shed
Opposite of Head Water
What is Deposition
“Deposited” materials taken from banks and moved to other areas
What is stream flow
Measuring the amount of water that flows past a certain point over a long time
What is a Aquifer
Spaces in rock fill with groundwater
LIKE A UNDERGROUND RIVER
What is a water table
A layer of rock which all pores are full with water
What is Contamination
Any addition of undesirable of substances to groundwater caused by humans
