Topic 3 Forces Flashcards
What are the 2 main forces
Push and pull
What does a force do
Causes things to change shape, change direction or change speed
What equipment is used to measure force
A newton meter
What is force measured in
Newtons (N)
What is friction
A force that works in the opposite direction to movement
What is air resistance
The force that acts in the opposite direction to an object moving through the air
What is the name given to objects that are designed to reduce air resistance
Streamlined shape
How many newtons are in 1 kg
10N
If you have a mass of 50kg what is your weight
50 x 10 = 500N
How can you calculate weight
Mass x gravitational force
What is a balanced force
If the forces acting on the object are balanced there is no resultant force.
If the forward force is 500N and the friction force (backward force) is 250N. What is the resultant force and in what direction
Forward force - Friction Force
500N - 250N = 250N forward
