Topic 3: Data Visualization and Measure of Central Tendencies Flashcards
The statistical measure that identifies a single value as representative of an entire distribution.
typical value
A graph or data set organized to show the frequency of occurrence of each possible outcome of a repeatable event observed many times.
frequency distribution
The middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending list of numbers.
median
A type of distribution in which more values are concentrated on the right side of the distribution graph while the left tail of the distribution graph is longer.
negatively skewed
A set of data is the difference between the largest and smallest values
range
The value that appears most frequently in a data set
mode
Excel formula to get the mean of a data set.
=average(data)
The distributions that occur when the long tail is on the right side of the distribution.
positively skewed
The average of the given set of values.
mean
A chart that plots the distribution of a numeric variable’s values as a series of bars.

Data Visualization purposes
Comparison; Composition; Relationship; Distribution
is a measure of symmetry
skewness
range is greater than number of data we wil use
Histogram
range is less than number of data we wil use
frequency distribution
Skewed to the Right ; The right tail is longer
positively skewed (> + 1) use MEDIAN
Skewed to the left ; The left tail is longer
negatively skewed (< - 1) use MEDIAN
between -1 & + 1 or anything +0/-0
Relatively symmetric use MEAN
For symmetric distributions, the mean, median, mode almost coincide USE ___ Instead
MEAN
Decision & Outcome process (6)
Data > Analysis > Insights > Decision > Action > Outcome
is a measure that captures the typical user’s experience.
MEDIAN
3 ways to get Typical value
Range
Measure of central tendencies (Mean, median, mode)
Skewedness
center/middle value
typical value (mean)
It shows the dispersion/spread of ur data within the data sets.
range
It contains all data use have in a particular sets/column highlighted.
range
To describe what kind of distributions of the data is this.
skewedness
Using Skewness, we can now determine what the typical value of data is. And we will use ANY OF MEASURE OF TENDENCIES to determine the typical value.
