Topic 2 (Unfinished) Flashcards
What is perception?
Perception is the process by which the brain analyses and makes sense out of incoming sensory information.
What 3 things does perception allow us to do?
segregate objects from one another and their background, recognise what they are and to judge their
distance from us.
How do we segregate objects?
Perceptual organisation into figure and ground. Perceptual organisation of stimuli into coherent patterns.
How can the distance be determined using visual cues?
Visual cues such as relative size, superimposition and relative height in field
What is superimposition?
When the image of one object partially blocks the image of another by superimposition, the blocked object is perceived as further away.
