What was life like in Barcelona (1935)?
A
- The anarchist CNT took control and implemented an anarchist revolution
- CNT abolished the government
- Collectivisation; around 70%of Barcelona’s industry and 2,000 businesses were collectivised, transport and churches were turned into taxi’s and hospital’s
- Elected management committees set up to set wages and working hours

What was life like in Aragon (1937)?
A
- rural Aragon was collectivised - democratic committees organised production, defence and distribution
- Some areas where money was abolished and replaced with vouchers
- August 1937, central government defeated the Anarchists

What was life like in Madrid?
A
- The central government remained firmly in control
- Only 30% of the industries were collectivised
- Bombing raids were frequent and food shortages were common with rising food prices

How did the Nationalist’s manage their zone?
A
- Reforms passed by previous Republican governments were reversed
- All political parties opposing the coup were banned - as well as trade unions and strikes
- The church’s position was restored as well as their educational role
- Food was more readily available
