• Collectivisation; around 70%of Barcelona’s industry and 2,000 businesses were collectivised, transport and churches were turned into taxi’s and hospital’s
• Elected management committees set up to set wages and working hours

• rural Aragon was collectivised - democratic committees organised production, defence and distribution
• Some areas where money was abolished and replaced with vouchers
• August 1937, central government defeated the Anarchists

• The central government remained firmly in control
• Only 30% of the industries were collectivised
• Bombing raids were frequent and food shortages were common with rising food prices
