LPF’s make up 22% of all families with children. 1/4 lives in a lone-parent family
over 90%of lone parent families are headed by women
until 1990s divorced women were biggest group of lone moms

why is CPOW lead to an increase in lone parent families
women greater financial independence means that they can afford to be a lone parent this is further supported by an increase in WELFARE BENEFITS - allow people to leave their partner even if they don’t earn enough to support children alone.
what is an increase in divorce led to Lone parent
separation leaves parents due to many children staying with 1 parent predominately, argue partly due ton decline in stigma, no longer frowned upon in todays society to raise a child alone
why is courts a reason to make one parent families are female headed?
mothers tend to gain custody of children during divorce. could be liked to socialisation sociologists believe women naturally suited to expressive role (FUNCTIONALISM)
how has an impact of feminism a reason why 1 parent families are often female headed?
Many LPF’s headed because mothers are single by choice so may not want to cohabit or marry.
women may choose to limit father’s involvement found professional women have further encouraged this.
