Topic 2 Cells And Control Flashcards
What are the stages of mitosis?
Interphase, prophase, metaphase,anaphase,telophase, cytokinesis
What happens at interphase?
DNA is copied beginning of a new cycle. Forms X-shaped chromosomes. Each arm of the chromosome is an exact duplicate of the other
What happens at prophase?
Fibers form nuclear membrane disappears. PropHASE
what happens at Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up at the middle of the cell
What happens at anaphase?
Chromosomes are pulled apart by spindles
What happens at telophase?
Chromosomes are separated nuclei reforms
What happens at cytokinesis?
Cytoplasm separates and diploid cells also known as daughter cells are formed
What is the function of embryonic stem cells?
Embryonic stem cells are from the embryo. They have the potential to divide and produce any kind of cell. They can differentiate into any specialised cell.
What are meristems?whats it’s function?
A type of stem cell that is found in plants. They are found in areas of a plant that are growing. They produce unspecialised cels that can differentiate into any specialised cell in order to grow.
What is the first stage in the process of the nervous system?
1) the electrical impulse travels along the axon
What is the second stage in the process of the nervous system?
2) the electrical impulse arrives at the synapse
What is the third stage in the process of the nervous system?
3) electrical impulses are converted into a chemical signal called neurotransmitters
What is the fourth stage in the process of the nervous system?
Chemical diffuses to other neuron
What is the 5th stage in the process of the nervous system?
The other neuron receives the chemical
What is the last stage in the process of the nervous system?
Triggers another impulse/ new impulse generated
